II''" Flagler College Friday, September 14, 1979 Volume XI Number I SGA Board Set; Plans Year By MARTHA WALKER The 1979-80 SGA Executive Board of Flagler College is off and running into what promises to be a busy and exciting year. Executive board members are Andy McRae, president' Cliff Coates, vice president; Chris Liquori, secretary; Lisa Almeida, social chairperson ; and Martha Walker, community relations chairperson . With the orientation program termed a "smooth success" by all involved , the Board is turning its attention to other matters. Aside from the numerous dances and free movies, many special events - some old , some new - have been planned . There ·will be a trip to ltchetucknee Springs , a Hawaiian Luau Weekend , Fall Weekend and Games Day, a Halloween Keg Hunt, and the third annual Mr. Ugly Contest. The Board is planning a new location for an SGA office that will be more convenient than the present one in the Muir House . The SGA also hopes to purchase a new movie projector in order to cut down on the expense of free movie nights at the local theater. Students would be able to choose the time they would like to see the movie as there will be two show times. Another new practice started this year was a survey given to the students on their preferences in movies and in music for dances. A new member to the board is Cliff Coates, who has replaced Maureen Tormey as vice president. Tormey chose not to come back to Flagler th is year because her mother is seriously ill. Coates was nominated to the office along with four other eligible students. All had been in SGA the previous year , were either juniors or seniors, had a record of good attendance and the proper GPA. The others declined due to conflicting schedules , and th~ road was left open for Coates . There is a wide range of interest among the five executive board members. SGAOfficers McRae, Almeida, Liquori, Walker, Coates New S.tudents Check-In . . . , · ,, ,, ·, .. ... ., Andy McRae, a senior, is maJonng in business and plans to hold a position in that area some day . He also has a fascination for the Gilded Age, when Flagler came to Florida to build his empire along this coast. Cliff Coates, a junior, is majoring in the social sciences. He has a particiular interest in politics and plans to go on to graduate studies after he finishes here at Flagler. Lisa Almeida, also a senior , is studying education and drama. After graduation, she plans to live in St. Augustine and work in public relations. She has a great love for the school and has her eyes set on Walter Shin n's job for later in life . Martha Walker, another junior, is majoring in English and history , and takes minors in politics and journalism. She intends to take her masters in English and history and wants to become a historical preservationist and a writer. Like McRae. Walker has a keen interest in the Gilded Age . Chris Liquori is a sophomore and is concentrating his studies in pre-law . He is interested in politics and developing a fl uency in the French language. He has aspirations to become a corporate lawyer in his home state of New York . Senior Class Seeks Funds By KIM WELCH Senior class president Nancy Gildred has cited a need to create capital to sustain traditional senior class activities during the year . Gildred explained the class' financial situation at a senior meeting last Saturday night at Dragoon's. Vice-President Susan Gebhardt, Secretary Amy O'Connell and Treasurer Pam Pinkerton also spoke to the approximately 40 seniors there. Th'=! firsf fund raising event is scheduled for Sept. 24. At least $1 ,000 is needed by the close of the year. Gildred told students. The SGA has appropriated an additional $300 to the class. Senior· class. activities include Homecoming Weekend, the senior class party and the sepior class gift to the school. Other business conducted at the ·semester's first meeting included sign ups for various committees and meeting fellow class members. Senior dass dues of $5 were collected and are payable to Pam Pinkerton at any time . Unpaid dues will be collected at the senior class party held the eve of graduation. The next meeting.will be held Tuesday. Meetings will be the second Tuesday of each month theafter.
